Honnemaradu is a tourist place situated on the back waters of River Sharavathi. It is very popular among watersports enthusiasts as a site for kayaking, windsurfing and other similar sports.
It is located in Shimoga district, Karnataka and about 50 km away from Sirsi, on the way to Jog falls. Visitors can stay overnight, with facilities for food, shelter and equipment rentals nearby.
Honnemardu is full of adventurer’s delight and offers a wide range of activities.Honnemardu is a small village perched on the hills that overlook the Linganamakki Reservoir. The reservoir is also known as Honnemardu after the village. In the middle of this huge water body there are many small islands that attracts the campers. In addition to the various adventure activities, Honnemardu is also a birdwatchers paradise and one can spend endless hours watching and trying to identify the large variety of birds and butterflies.

Honnemaradu, a haven for water sports, is tucked away in the lush greenery of the Western Ghats along
the Sharavati backwaters near Sagar. Encompassing an area of 50 km by 80 km,
this reservoir stretches as far as the eye can see. One of the few places that
cater exclusively to water sports, Honnemaradu or “Golden Lake” has some of the

Swimming - The huge stretch of fresh flat water dotted with islands is serene and inviting for a swim at any time of the day.Our volunteers is always at hand to provide assistance and guidance.
Kayaking -A kayak is a close decked, single seated boat, propelled with a double bladed paddle. The individual’s concentration and technique make for a challenging undertaking.
Rafting - Raft is the simplest type of watercraft. Modern rafts called rubber dinghies are in use today. The rubber dinghy is a boat consisting of a rubber shaped tube filled with air. It is a favorite among aqua enthusiasts since can take a lot of load due to the air it is floating on and will hardly capsize.
Camping - Campsites at Honnemardu are perfect to experiment with tent pitching and shelter building. An open campfire is a wonderful way to compliment a meal under the stars. One will also learn the philosophy of no trace camping to emphasize the spirit of environmental conservation.Please note that above water sports adventurous activities are permitted and coordinated by Indian Institute for Adventure Applications.
At least 15 days of prior booking is necessary to perform above water sports activities except boating & swimming.
